James Voyles, Director of Environmental Affairs; The Mosaic Co.

 

James Voyles is the Director of Environmental Affairs for The Mosaic Co.,  the world’s leading producer and marketer of concentrated phosphate and potash, two of the primary crop nutrients required to grow the food the world needs.

 

He has spent more than 20 years managing, leading, litigating, advocating and counseling major companies on critical environmental, health, and safety issues.  In his current role, he heads a of team of environmental experts who address the full range of environmental issues facing Mosaic – air, water, waste, and emerging regulations.  His team develops cost-effective permitting and compliance strategies; provides leadership for state and federal advocacy on critical environmental issues, including participating in state and federal rulemaking; and manages complex environmental enforcement and permitting issues.

 

Prior to becoming Director of Environmental Affairs, Mr. Voyles was Senior Environmental and Corporate Counsel with Mosaic.  He previously held similar positions at Cargill, Koch Industries, and Mobil Oil.  He has defended many large enforcement cases and has provided compliance counseling in all areas of environmental law, including mining, air, water, waste, release reporting, remediation, fuels, and other related federal and state statutes and regulations.

 

Mr. Voyles received a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Brigham Young University and a JD, cum laude, from Cornell Law School.  He is the author of Managing Your Hazardous Wastes – A Step-by-Step Guide, 2nd Edition, Government Institutes (now ABS), 2002.
